Biography
Geoff
Tupholme retired from his full-time post as Professor of Mathematics at the
University of Bradford and became an Emeritus Professor from 1 October 2010
Professor Tupholme was awarded his BSc with Special Honours in Mathematics from
the University of Sheffield. This was
followed by his PhD in Mathematics from
the University of East Anglia.
Subsequently, he
was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) from the University of East
Anglia for his "sustained, original and distinguished contribution to
knowledge".
His
first post was as an Assistant Lecturer in Mathematics at the University of
Dundee. He joined the University of Bradford as a Lecturer in Mathematics and
was then promoted to a Senior Lectureship and finally a Professorship. He took an extended leave of absence to be a
Visiting Research Scientist in the Department of Mathematics at the University
of Simon Fraser in Canada.
His
long-standing research activities have followed different, but at times
related, paths involving elastic and piezoelectric waves and pulses, acoustic
pulses, and cracks and dislocations.
However, additionally, flourishing collaborations on heat transfer
problems and on deformations of rubber bushes have been developed.
