Understanding Race and Ethnicity

With reference to the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and western imperialisms, the module explains how notions of race, racial difference and racial inequality have evolved and become embedded within modern society. The module draws upon postcolonial literature and cultural studies, and wider academic ethnic relations discourse. The module also explores legislation, immigration as well as varied manifestations of race thinking (institutional, cultural and biological forms of racism, for example).
