Desmond
MSc Psychology (Distance Learning)
Building experience in the healthcare industry in his home country of Nigeria, Desmond developed a passion for psychology.
Our MSc Psychology Distance Learning degree gave him the opportunity to study his passion, while offering flexibility to continue pursuing his goals.
This is his story.

International healthcare exposed me to diverse cultures and perspectives, sparking my interest in studying abroad.
Studying medicine in Nigeria
"After earning my undergraduate degree in medicine at the University of Port Harcourt in Nigeria, I began working as a GP (general practitioner) in a private medical centre."
"This ignited my curiosity about understanding human behaviour.
"My career progressed through various roles, including working for an international healthcare provider (International SOS) in offshore company clinics.
"Often the only medically-trained professional on board, I developed confidence in handling emergency situations on my own.
"This experience also deepened my interest in leadership, team management, and training.
"Thanks to the people I met from different cultures and backgrounds, working in international healthcare not only expanded my medical knowledge, but also inspired me to pursue further education in a different country."
Why study in England?
"I chose England because of the significant career opportunities in healthcare."
"Although rigorous license exams are required to practice, there are no barriers for anyone willing to work hard.
"Postgraduate education in England is also more accessible than doing it from Nigeria, which influenced my decision."
Bradford stood out
"Bradford's MSc Psychology Distance Learning programme matched my interests in human behaviour and psychology."
"My wife recently graduated from the University. Her positive experience, along with my visits to the campus, reassured me that Bradford was the right choice.
"I particularly liked the University’s facilities and multicultural environment. It felt familiar given my experience working with people from different backgrounds in international healthcare. This helped solidify my decision.
“I had some concerns about how interactive the course would be and the level of support available, but I’ve felt fully supported throughout.”

The flexibility of the programme has been invaluable. It has enabled me to fully commit to my job while pursuing a postgraduate degree.
Gaining knowledge and confidence
"The course structure is dynamic and interactive, incorporating videos, discussions and group activities."
"Before enrolling, I believed a psychology degree would refine my communication skills - so far, this has proven to be the case.
"The course has been highly engaging, and I’ve developed valuable skills, particularly in quantitative and qualitative research methods.
"I initially had limited experience in quantitative data analysis, but through assignments and active engagement, my confidence has grown hugely.
"As this is my first time studying part time and fully online, I initially worried about engagement and tutor support.
"However, I've found that tutors are accessible, highly involved, willing to discuss topics in detail when needed, and create plenty of opportunities for engagement with classmates.
"I currently work as a mental health support worker, assisting individuals with conditions such as Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and other personality disorders. I've already found that my studies are enhancing my performance in my role."
My career goals
"My ultimate goal is to qualify as a clinical psychologist and practise in the UK."
"This course is a crucial stepping stone toward that ambition. So far, the course has strengthened my academic foundation and built on the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my career."
I would absolutely recommend this programme.
Advice for others
"Distance learning gives you the flexibility to study at your own pace while still being able to seize new opportunities."
"This makes it an excellent option for people with full-time jobs who previously saw work commitments as a barrier to further education.
"For anyone considering psychology, it’s important to recognise that it’s a broad and versatile field. It provides transferable skills that are valuable in almost any sector.
"If your career involves working with people, a psychology degree will strengthen your communication skills and enhance your ability to empathise with others."
