During her tenure, she has conferred degrees at graduation ceremonies, met with students and launched the Rani Scholarship to support women entering higher education.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Shirley Congdon said: "We're proud to be represented by our wonderful Chancellor, Anita Rani, who is a stalwart champion of her home city of Bradford and this university and we congratulate her on her second anniversary.

"She is an inspiration in that she has always challenged stereotypes, she has broken boundaries and she continues to do things differently, which, as the university that prides itself on making a difference, is something we wholeheartedly support."

The Rani Scholarship, supported by TechnologyOne, launched in January 2024 and supports four female students each year who are facing disadvantage to study in subjects in which women are most underrepresented. Four scholarships were awarded in September 2024.

One of those students said: “This scholarship has been nothing short of a miracle for me and my family. It has allowed me to pursue a dream that I’ve had since I was young, and I cannot express how thankful I am.”

A second tranche of awardees will take up their places in September this year.

UNACHIEVABLE – Making the impossible possible

The University of Bradford is proud to be nationally recognised for championing equality and diversity. In November 2024, the University of Bradford was ranked #1 on the Higher Education Policy Institute’s Social Mobility Index for the fourth year in a row. The SMI began in 2021 as a new way of ranking universities based on the difference they make to students’ lives. Measures include things like career progression, attainment rates and salaries.
