World of possibilities for Bradford students thanks to £363,000 Turing Scheme grant
University of Bradford awarded £363,000 by new Turing Scheme to sent its students around the world
The University of Bradford has been awarded £363,000 by the Government’s new Turing Scheme - the money will enable its students to take up study, work, and short-term placements around the world.
The Turing scheme - named after mathematician Alan Turing - replaced the previous Erasmus programme, which ended when the UK left the EU.
The new money will enable the University to award around 160 grants to cover living costs, and travel, visa and insurance expenses for students taking up international placements abroad.
Life-changing
Students can apply to go to one of the following countries: Australia, Cambodia, Gambia, Ghana, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, USA, Vietnam, and Zambia.
Carlos Santos E Sousa, International Opportunities Co-ordinator, said: “This is fantastic news for the University, it means we are able to offer our students life-changing experiences through international placement schemes relevant to their degrees in countries around the world.
“Such experiences not only broaden people’s horizons, they help forge important life-long links, and provide a deeper understanding of the subject, as well as creating memories which will last a lifetime.”
He added: “All students are eligible but we are very keen to support applications from students from disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups, in line with the University’s strategy on improving social mobility and improving people’s life chances.”
For example, a student doing a four-week placement can receive a Turing grant of around £2,000, and a student doing a nine-month placement can receive a grant of about £5,500.
Indeed, a number of students have already had their grant applications accepted and will be taking up places soon.
