Trust in University to deliver schools tutoring
Bradford schools will benefit from high quality tutoring in maths, English and science thanks to a partnership between the University, Morrisons Foundation and the Tutor Trust.
The project will enable disadvantaged pupils and vulnerable learners in the city’s state schools to fulfil their potential.
Starting in September, Tutor Trust aims to recruit 50 tutors from the University’s students to deliver bespoke face-to-face tutoring.
A range of national reports – including from the Social Mobility Commission and the Children’s Commissioner – show that Bradford is a priority city for extra educational support, and this is needed more than ever because of the impact of the pandemic on the most disadvantaged young people. Bradford also remains one of the Government’s priority ‘Opportunity Areas’.
During 2020/21, Tutor Trust delivered purely online work with Bradford schools as a pilot, serving 375 pupils across ten primary and secondary schools. Now, it will start face-to-face tutoring with pupils in Bradford schools, which is what they have said they really want and need.

Founded in Manchester in 2011, the Trust has a strong evidence base for the quality and impact of its work across the North of England. Tutor Trust is unique in being the only tutoring organisation in the country – either charitable or commercial – with proven, positive results from a large-scale randomised control trial with the Education Endowment Foundation; this rigorous and independent evaluation showed disadvantaged pupils making an additional three months of progress in Maths from just 12 hours of our tutoring.
