Stonehenge, fad diets and global security... at Bradford Literature Festival

The University of Bradford is proud to once again partner with the Bradford Literature Festival (BLF) which has been hailed as one of the most inspirational and inclusive festivals in the UK.

The festival, which is taking place Friday 25 June - Sunday 4 July, will feature a series of Covid-safe live and digital events.

Professor John Bridgeman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation & Engagement) at the University of Bradford said: “We are excited to once again be a key partner in the Bradford Literature Festival which continues to grow from strength to strength. The festival showcases Bradford’s diverse and inclusive community, and we are proud our academics are featuring in this year’s line-up. This is a great opportunity for the public to hear from some of our researchers at the University and to find out about the cutting-edge projects they are working on.”

The BLF celebrates the written and spoken word and showcases some world-renowned authors, speakers, poets, musicians and University of Bradford academics.

Stonehenge and the Durrington Shafts – Saturday 26 June 14:30 – 15:45

University of Bradford’s Prof Vince Gaffney joins a panel of industry experts, including historians and archaeologists, to discuss the Stonehenge’s historical and cultural impact, and to explore its role and other heritage sites in the modern world.

Giles Yeo: Why Calories Don’t Count – Saturday 26 June 1600: - 17:00

Dr Gisela Helfer from the University of Bradford joins author Giles Yeo, an obesity researcher at Cambridge University, in a live panel discussion and audience Q&A, which aims to dispel some of the most common misconceptions people fall victim to whenever they try getting into shape. Giles Yeo will explain why popular diet schemes often succeed – and then ultimately fail – and how our environment can impact our wellbeing, this fact-packed session will leave audiences with practical, science-based advice on how they can regain control of their eating habits.

Losing Control: Global Security in the 21st Century – Saturday 3 July 09:00

Losing Control is University of Bradford Emeritus Professor Paul Rogers’ seminal work of geopolitical conflict and military analysis, predicting the endless war on terror and the increase in revolts from the margins. In this talk, Rogers discusses the newly revised and expanded edition, predicting the crucial junctures in the years to come, exploring the potential for future military activity and pointing to the 2030s and 40s as decades of immense change.
