About

The Stonewall Riots was a significant marker in the fight for liberation, but this history has been told and retold with key characters removed. Come along for an immersive exploration of this key moment, to learn more about the key people involved, and in particular how Black and Brown folks have been at the forefront of this fight from the beginning.

The presentation will be delivered by Usman Ahmed, Co-Chair of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network at the University of Bradford and Founder of the Queer South Asian Café (Bradford), who is particularly interested in uncovering hidden histories related to Queerness and Bradford. It will also make use of the Peace Museums “Peace Out Exhibition” which can be found online as well as other key archive material.

Schedule / programme

LGBT+ History Month is an annual month-long observance of past struggles and achievements of LGBTQIA+ people and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.

In the UK, it takes place every February and was originally created by Schools OUT UK. It aims to promote and advance equality, diversity and inclusion.  In 2025 Schools OUT is celebrating its 50th year and 20 years of UK LGBT+ History Month.

The 2025 UK LGBT+ History Month theme is Activism and Social Change.
