Our business facilities

Our facilities available for external organisations to use include research laboratories, specialist testing facilities (with expert technicians) and business spaces including offices, clinical and testing facilities, and meeting and conference rooms.

Academic facilities and laboratories

We have many health, life science, engineering and informatics research and teaching facilities housing world-class standard equipment for business to benefit from.  These can be utilised through academic research activity and some can be booked for independent use.

To explore access to academic facilities you need to discuss your requirements with an academic member of staff in the research area you are interested in.

Centre for Digital Innovations in Health and Social Care (CDIHSC)

The Centre for Digital Innovations in Health and Social Care (CDIHSC) provides expert input into the digital transformation of the health and care system, an area identified by the Department of Health and Social Care as a top priority. The centre was awarded funding to operate two flagship research programmes that:

  • informs the design and implementation of new technologies in national and international health and care systems;
  • explores the impact of such technologies on patients, service users, carers, and health and social care professionals.

CDIHSC also encompasses the Digital Health Enterprise Zone which provides a virtual service and physical space for organisations which develop digital health solutions to make people’s lives better. Facilities include office, meeting and events space, phlebotomy suite and a two-bedroom house (the Tech House) for health simulation testing.

High performance computing

With a diverse range of benefits, high performance computing (HPC) is accelerating computationally intensive research in fields such as health data analytics, bioinformatics, numerical modelling, and machine learning.

The HPC system supports workloads like fluid dynamics or molecular modelling in parallel across hundreds of cores, reducing the time it takes to get your results compared to your desktop computer. Graphics Processing Units accelerate machine learning and connected storage lets you hold and access all your data easily during processing.
