Dementia Action Week is our chance to spotlight the incredible initiatives supporting people affected by dementia across the UK. Here at the University of Bradford's Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, we're buzzing with excitement about our packed schedule of events that celebrate the valuable contributions of our experts by experience – those living with or supporting someone with dementia – alongside the groundbreaking work of our researchers.
Monday 19 May
Charity Bake Sale for Pathways group for people impacted by young-onset dementia
Time: 11:00-15:00
Location: Horton A Building Foyer, University of Bradford (step free access)
Purchase a range of tasty treats with all proceeds going towards Pathways, a group for people impacted by young-onset dementia in the Bradford area.
Public Lecture: Recent Dementia Care Initiatives in the USA
Time: 11:00-12:00
Location: University of Bradford, Richmond Building, Room D3 (step-free access available)

Join Professor Richard Fortinsky as he shares fascinating insights into recent clinical trials testing dementia care coordination models in the United States. Learn about nationwide programs supporting people with dementia and their caregivers, plus get an overview of cutting-edge anti-amyloid medicine infusions for treatment.

Pint of Science Talks: Dementia Insights

Thursday 22 May
Chai and Chat: South Asian Dementia Café
Time: 13:00-15:00
Location: Mary Sunley House, Banstead Street West, Leeds
Experience the warmth of our South Asian Dementia Café, Hamari Yaadain (Our Memories). Enjoy complimentary drinks and sweet treats in this culturally familiar space where you can connect with others, share experiences, and build friendships. Conversations will be held in mother tongues, creating a truly welcoming environment. This event is part of the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration event series.

Bradford: An Immersive Experience
Time: Choose between 10:30-12:00 or 14:00-15:30
Location: University of Bradford, Richmond Building (step free access available)
Step into our stunning 360-degree immersive room and journey through Bradford's lansmarks! Experience images from Bradford projected all around you – on the walls and floor. Share memories, feelings, and thoughts in a friendly discussion that will help us understand how this technology might benefit people affected by dementia and the wider public. This event is supported by Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
Who's invited: On Thursday 22nd May, the immersive experience is open to the general public (including staff and students). People with dementia and their supporters will be invited to take part on Friday 23rd May at the same times

Sunday 25 May
Brain Health and Dementia Prevention in the Black African Community
Time: 17:00-20:00
Location: Blackburn Hall, Commercial Street, Rothwell, Leeds
Challenge misconceptions about dementia and discover practical ways to reduce your risk in this interactive workshop. Learn valuable tips for protecting your brain health: from staying physically active to maintaining social connections. Beyond Memory + What brings you joy in Bradford
Time: 10:00-17:00 with a launch event at 1:30pm
Location: City Hall (Banqueting Hall), Centenary Square, Bradford
Experience two art exhibitions in one: What Brings You Joy in Bradford? and Beyond Memory. The exhibition offers the chance to see Bradford through the eyes of people living with dementia and to battle the stigma around dementia. The exhibition showcases joyful memories and stories expressed from people with dementia themselves through various art forms that celebrate our vibrant city. This event is supported by Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.
