Finding the space and time to relax can be a challenge. Tahsin shares some of her favourite relaxation spots on campus and in the city.

Hi, I'm Tahsin, an MSc in Digital and Strategic Marketing graduate. The year of your Master's degree can be an exciting, adventurous yet stressful and anxious journey. In my experience, this can be even more overwhelming as an international student who isn't familiar with the city and campus. Finding time and space to relax can be challenging when your dissertation is due and you want to give your best.
Regular breaks from busy student life, and spending too much time in your dorm room, are necessary to keep you relaxed. Here are a few spots on campus and around the city that can help you take a moment to breathe and relax.
The Amphitheatre "Amp" on campus
After long hours of classes and studying in the library, it's really important that give yourself a break and take some time to relax. One of the go-to places for me, if I don't feel like venturing off campus, is the Amphitheatre (also called the Amp). It’s notable for its lush greenery and it has a beautiful terraced area surrounded by pine trees and shrubbery.
On a blessedly sunny day, you can sit and relax on the grass alone or with friends and enjoy the green grass, vast skies and fresh air. I love turning some music on, enjoying a coffee from the on-site Costa and having a small meal. Tip: don’t forget your storybook if you love reading like me!
The Amp is a great place to pass the time with friends or make some new ones and enjoy the best sunset on campus. On various occasions, there are outdoor performances as well like music, drama and some friendly outdoor game sessions. No matter what time of year, the Amp is a wonderful place to unwind.
Centenary Square
The most popular and iconic location in Bradford, where there's always something going on and is great for relaxing, is Bradford's Centenary Square. It's located in the heart of the city centre and is surrounded by Bradford City Hall, the famous Mirror Pool, some amazing restaurants, a city library and much more. It's a hub for events, leisure activities and community gatherings.
On any given day it's the right place for going for an evening stroll. You can enjoy the fresh air and amazing events that are always happening in the square. The Mirror Pool, which is the largest urban water feature in the UK, reflects the stunning surrounding architecture - it also illuminates at night to create a magical visual effect.
The square is loved by everyone and a blend of people come to have fun with their children and beloved pets. After a long day or if you are just feeling overwhelmed sitting near the Mirror Pool and City Hall can help you relax and clear your mind.
Waterstones
Who doesn’t like a cosy bookshop accompanied by some amazing coffee, warm brownies and sandwiches? Waterstones is situated inside a stunning Victorian Gothic building and the architecture alone leaves you in absolute awe.
The interior of the bookstore reflects its rich history. The high ceilings with intricate stonework and beautiful windows make the whole experience of looking through books like a journey through time.
Get your favourite book and read it in the many cosy comfortable seating areas on the ground floor. It has something for everyone with a vast collection across different genres. You can also head up to the first floor to sip on a warm mug of coffee or tea and enjoy some zen time.
Lister Park
If you are health conscious and love taking long walks, Lister Park can be your go-to place to unwind. The Bradford district is home to 36 parks but Lister Park is one of the most beautiful green spaces in my opinion. Located north of the city centre, the park is a blend of nature, culture and history.
Within the park, the Mughal Water Garden will be a treat to your eyes and is a serene spot with flowing water, fountains and calming greenery. You could also enjoy the art gallery inside Cartwright Hall. It showcases contemporary and traditional art and exhibits Bradford’s diverse culture. There are vast places for sports and recreation as well making it a place to calm your stress and anxiety.
I hope you enjoyed my recommendations and will share some of the amazing spots across the city of Bradford where you can take some time away to go and relax.
